ATM/Debit Card Safety

No matter where or how you access your money

We are committed to keeping you and your account information safe.
Protecting Your Debit Card from Fraud
Debit cards offer convenience when trying to access your funds.  Because of the direct link debit cards have to your account(s), it’s important to take precautions to protect your card from unauthorized access and reduce the risk of identity theft.

Protect your PIN (Personal Identification Number)
  • Choose a PIN that is unique and not related to personal information, such as a birthday or Social Security Number.
  • Never write down your PIN or store it within your cell phone; memorize it or save it on a secure password manager.
  • Do not share your PIN with anyone.
  • Be cautious when entering your PIN. Be sure to cover the keypad as you enter it so anyone around you will be unable to see the numbers you key in.
  • To change your PIN, call 1-866-985-2275.

Inspect card readers before swiping and inserting your card.
  • Card skimming theft can affect anyone who uses their cards at ATMs, gas stations, restaurants or retail stores.
    • A skimmer is a device installed on card readers that collects card numbers.
    • Thieves recover the information and use it to make fraudulent purchases.

Sign up for debit card alerts.
  • Whether by text message or email, Consumer Alerts help protect you from fraud by putting you in control of your account information.
  • You choose which types of account alerts you want to receive and how you want to receive them.
  • With Consumer Alerts, know when:
    • Large purchases occur (and you set the amount).
    • A purchase is made without your card being present.
    • Purchases are made from outside the country.

Additional debit card safety precautions.
  • Review your bank statements or check your account history online regularly to verify if any unauthorized transactions are shown.
  • Don’t lend your debit card to anyone.
  • Don’t respond to requests for your debit card information or verification of your personal information via call, text or email.
Another way we protect your money.
Our goal is to minimize your exposure to risk and the impact of any fraud.  If we suspect fraudulent activity on your debit card, we will call you to validate the legitimacy of your transactions.

  • Responding to our call is critical to prevent potential risk and avoid restrictions we may place on the use of your card.
  • Be diligent in monitoring transaction activity on your account and contact us immediately if you identify any fraudulent transactions.

Be Safe in Every Place
The safety of our customers is and always will be our top priority. Keeping these safety precautions in mind can keep your and your money safe while using an ATM.

Before you go to the ATM:
  • Have your card out and ready to use.
  • Don’t use your card at an ATM that appear to be tampered with or broken.
  • Inspect the ATM for skimmers, paying particular attention to how the ATM card reader looks and feels. If the card reader is loose, don’t use the ATM.
  • Avoid using ATMs that are not well lit, on street corners with easy approachability from cars, or near blind spots.
  • Consider having someone you trust accompany you when the ATM is used after dark.
  • If someone appears to be loitering around the ATM, go to another location.

At the ATM:
  • Be alert and aware of your surroundings.
  • Do not accept assistance from anyone you do not know and trust when using an ATM.
  • Prevent others from seeing you enter your PIN when using an ATM.
  • If you are in a vehicle at a drive-up ATM, only open your window when you are ready to make a transaction. Keep your doors locked and the engine running.
  • Do not count or display money you receive from the ATM.
  • When your transaction is complete, recover your card, receipt, and any cash you requested from the ATM and promptly leave the area.
  • If someone does approach you and demands your money, do not resist. Remember everything you can about the person and call the police immediately.
