BankNorth will NEVER initiate a request for sensitive information such as account numbers, passwords or social security number by phone, email or text. We will only ask you to provide this information to verify your identity when you call the bank directly.
Identity Theft can Happen to Anyone
If you suspect you’ve have become a victim of identity theft, you should report the suspicious activity immediately. Here are the steps you should follow:
Step 1: Call the companies where you know the fraud occurred.
Explain the situation and ask them to freeze or close your accounts.
- Fraudulent activity on your bank account.
- Contact your local branch during business hours.
- Lost, stolen, or compromised cards

Step 2: Place a fraud alert and get your credit reports.
Place a free, one-year fraud alert by contacting one of the three credit bureaus.

- Experian: 1-888-397-3742
- TransUnion: 1-800-916-8800

- Go to annualcreditreport.com or call 1-877-322-8228
Step 3: Report identity theft to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission)
Complete the online form or call 1-877-438-4338
- The FTC will create an identity theft report and start a recovery plan.
Step 4: If you choose to do so, you can file a report with your local police department.
Go to your local police office with:
- A copy of your FTC Identity Theft Report.
- A government-issued ID with a photo.
- Proof our address (mortgage statement, rental agreement, or utilities bill).
- Any other proof you have of the theft.
